With summer now in full swing, it is time to think about your summer hair care. Whilst we often have no issues pampering our bodies, we too often forget to take care of our luscious locks. Therefore, in collaboration with Melissa Salons in Manchester, I have put together these 5 tips to help you perfect the ultimate summer hair care routine.

#1: Use A SPF Hair Product
We automatically apply sun cream to our bodies when spending time in the sun, but how often do you apply an SPF product to your hair? One of my top tips for summer hair care is to spray an SPF product over your locks prior to sun exposure. This will not only help to protect your hair, but also your sensitive scalp. There are lots of products available which are lightweight and will not leave your hair feeling ultra greasy. Try the Clarins Sun Care Oil Mist which is suitable for both hair and body.
#2: Protect Your Hair From The Sun
In addition to applying an SPF product to your hair, also try to protect your hair from the sun as much as possible. We all know that it is important to avoid the sun when the UV is at its highest during the day, but if you must be outside then try these tips to keep your hair protected:
- Wear a hat;
- Keep in the shade where possible; and
- Tie your hair up in a loose bun so there is the minimum surface area exposed to the sun.
#3: Apply An Ultra Moisturizing Hair Mask
Just like your body, your hair will get thirsty during summer and it is essential to keep it hydrated. An easy way to do this is to apply a deep moisturizing and hydrating mask to your hair often. I recommend something like the Vichy Dercos Kera-Solutions Restoring 2 Minute Mask to ensure sleek and glossy tresses during those summer months.
You may also wish to switch your shampoo and conditioner to products which focus on moisturizing and hydrating during the summer months for that extra bit of nourishment.
#4: Reduce The Use Of Hairdryer & Straightening Iron
Take advantage of the warm weather and let your hair dry naturally during the summer months. Reducing the use of heat styling products such as hair dryers and straightening irons will definitely help to prevent your hair becoming dry and brittle during the summer. Not only is this a win-win for your hair, but also the environment! Plus, think of all the time you will save by not styling your hair.
#5: Use An Oil Or Serum
Oils and serums can be ultra nourishing for the hair, protecting them from the elements and leaving them looking luscious. Just add a few drops of your favorite product and you will immediately notice the improvement to your hairs condition. After washing, try using something like The Ordinary Squalane in order to reduce breakage and add shine to your hair.
So, there are my 5 tips for summer hair care. In my opinion, summer is by far the best time of year. But it is important that we look after our hair, skin and bodies during the warmer months. Follow these few tips and you will be on your way to enjoying smooth and gorgeous tresses all summer.
