10 Brilliant Plane Toys for Toddlers

Are you looking for the perfect plane toys for toddlers to help keep them entertained on an upcoming flight?  Well you have come to the right place!  We have taken many flights with our toddler – both short haul and long haul.  And whilst I love traveling and exploring as a family of three, surviving a flight with a toddler can be challenging!plane toys for toddlers

We have been fortunate enough to fly Business Class on the long haul flights so that does give us a bit more room and comfort.  However, it is still very difficult to entertain a little one who is incredibly active but cant quite yet communicate their wants and needs.  As such, I have spent a lot of time scouting Amazon for the ideal plane toys for toddlers.  I pack them into our carry-on luggage to keep her entertained during the flight and then use them throughout the holiday also.

To take the guess work out of if for my fellow travel loving parents, here are my tried and tested top 10 plane toys for toddlers that I recommend to help keep your little people occupied.

10 Brilliant Plane Toys for Toddlers

#1: Tegu Pocket Pouch Magnetic Wooden Block Set

Plane toys for toddlers

The Tegu pocket building blocks are absolutely brilliant plane toys for toddlers.  They are beautifully packaged in a felt pouch, making them easy to transport, and they are made in a range of lovely pastel colors.  But the extra special feature of this toddler toy is that they are magnetic, meaning you shouldn’t loose all of the pieces all over the floor of the plane.

There is an instruction guide included with lots of different objects to try and build – I’m not sure whether the parents or toddler will have more fun with these?!?

#2: Board Books

Books are always a winner with young children, and board books make the perfect option for toddlers as they cannot (easily) rip the pages.  Whilst you might already have a mini-library at home, I always think it is nice to have a new book for your holidays.  It means it is something interesting and different for your child, plus it can double as their holiday bedtime story.  Here are a few of my favourite toddler board books:

#3: Buckle Toy Bizzy

Plane toys for toddlers

I thought this buckle toy looked like one of the more interesting plane toys for toddlers, and it did not disappoint.  There are several different characters in the range but I particularly liked Bizzy as it has ‘lift the flaps‘ on the back with animals underneath each one i.e. making it more interesting and educational.  My inquisitive child enjoys trying to figure out how all of the buckles work and then trying to perfect the technique for each.  It has stood the test of time and still continues to entertain her.

#4: Stacking Cups

Stacking cups are lightweight, easy to store and make ideal plane toys for toddlers.  Stack them up, learn the colours and numbers or use them for imaginative play.  They also second as a great bath toy whilst you are away from home, so they are definitely worth adding to your luggage.

#5: Mess Free Coloring Books

Plane toys for toddlers

Mess free colouring books are absolutely genius!  There are two different types available – one which you add water to a pen and then pictures magically appear on the page when ‘coloured’.  The other includes markers which will only work on the colouring pages provided. Both options avoid any mess or accidents whilst travelling, and make ideal plane toys for toddlers.  Here are two of our favourites:

#6: Make a Scene Reusable Stickers

Another great product that is inexpensive and wont make a mess is reusable stickers.  Some include a cardboard ‘scene‘ that allows your toddler to use their imagination and create pictures on the go.  Or with these reusable stickers you could let your child use them on the plane windows without the fear of ruining anything.  The Airport Stickabouts are a fantastic travel themed option.

Personally, I also loved these ‘Jumbo Stickers for Little Hands‘.  The pages are bright and colourful, plus glossy enough that the stickers can be maneuvered a few times.  There are a variety of themes to choose from depending on your toddler’s interests.

#7: Magnetic Drawing Board, Mini Travel Doodle

Who else remembers magnetic drawing boards from their childhood? However, I must say that they have significantly advanced since then and are now in color! We have a few in our toy collection and our daughter loves scribbling on them.  The magnetic drawing board is a must when it comes to plane toys for toddlers.

#8: Toy Phone

This toy phone accompanied us everywhere for a good couple of years.  Its small, lightweight and not too noisy to disturb other passengers on a flight.  The colours, music, lights and sounds will entertain your toddler whilst you are travelling, plus it also inspires creativity and imagination.  The definition of the perfect plane toy for toddlers.

#9: Plush Toy

What small child doesn’t love a soft toy?  They make a perfect companion when travelling with toddlers – providing comfort as a security blanket and allowing plenty of role play.  Plus a small soft toy can be squeezed into just about any bag making them not a nuisance to take with you.

#10: Amazon Fire Tablet, Kids Edition

I am pretty sure every parent I know has uttered the words:

I didn’t want to be that parent … but I gave them the tablet to watch cartoons.

We all fear of being judged by allowing our kids too much screen time. But the reality is that a tablet can provide some much needed respite for parents when travelling with kids.  I think the Amazon Fire Tablets are a great option – there is a huge variety of content available to download and the option to add a kid-proof casing to protect them from being damaged.

You may also like to invest in some headphones once your toddler is old enough to wear them.  We purchased the Snug Play+ for our daughter and have been very happy with the quality.  Put it this way … she is yet to break them!

  1. Great ideas. Reusable stickers are my go to travel toy. I like the mess free colouring pack! Our family are moving on to card games in all their forms which I am loving! Thanks for sharing #Culturedkids

  2. What a great selection – those magnetic blocks in particular are such a good idea! And those headphones are great value, and sound limiting too. We have John Lewis ones for the kids but might try these next time, when they inevitably need replacing! I stuff an Ikea tiny sandwich bag with small figurines, like from kinder eggs or playsets. You can usually pick them up very cheaply second hand or from ebay. They loved seeing them all, and packing them in and out the bag. And if they got lost, it doesn’t matter! Thanks so much for joining in with #CulturedKids

  3. Lovely list! I did a similar list when I first started blogging, so many links that of course are all broken now. Think it’s time to re post a far more sensible one ?. Sending love xx #MisichiefandMemories

  4. I love your line about the tablet!! We’ve all been there! I love those blocks and thanks for the tip, I’ve bought for friends with a new baby! #culturedkids

  5. We have never travelled by plane but these are great boredom busters for car journeys or being stuck at home with lockdown! Thanks for linking up with #MischiefAndMemories

  6. What a fab list of ideas. I think we actually had a magnetic wooden block set at one point for Little Button. Travel with little ones is hard work. We didn’t do plane journeys, but plenty of long car trips. Luckily, our little would fall asleep as soon as the car started lol. Thank you for sharing these wonderful ideas on #MischiefAndMemories xx

  7. Some great ideas here. I used to pack a whole bag load of stuff on long haul flights when the kids were little. Thankfully now that they’re older, they’re happy to listen to music or watch in-flight entertainment. #KCACOLS

  8. So many brilliant ideas, we have the water magic books and my kids love them keeps them busy for ages so ideal for a plane journey. I like the magnetic wooden blocks bet they would go down well with most toddlers. #KCACOLS
