12 Fun Filled Things to Do in Busselton with Kids

Busselton is one of Western Australia’s most effortlessly family-friendly destinations – the kind of place where kids are endlessly entertained and parents still get to relax, eat well, drink well and enjoy the local scenery. Located just over two hours’ drive from Perth, it’s an easy South West escape that feels equal parts laid-back and luxurious. And whilst it would be very easy to spend all day by the beach, I wanted to share all of our favourite things to do in Busselton with kids so that you can enjoy this small town to its full potential.

We have been to Busselton more times than I can remember and last Christmas was no different when we booked a 1 week stay with family friends and our 8 year old daughter.  This time around we stayed in an Airbnb close to the beach and being walking distance to the foreshore, cafes, breweries and playgrounds made the whole trip feel calm, relaxed and flexible.

I have been visiting Busselton since I was a child myself – camping in one of the nearby caravan parks and enjoying the endless summer days. The town has certainly changed since then and now offers a huge arrange of things to do with kids, but it still maintains that small town feeling.

12 Fun Filled Things to Do in Busselton with Kids

#1: Busselton Jetty, Train & Underwater Observatory

No list of things to do in Busselton with kids would be complete without mentioning the iconic Busselton Jetty. Stretching nearly two kilometres into Geographe Bay, it’s an experience that feels special for all ages.

Kids love riding the jetty train (no complaints about tired legs like when we were young and this didn’t exist), while the Underwater Observatory is genuinely impressive. It offers a front-row seat to marine life without anyone getting wet. It’s educational, calm and surprisingly mesmerising.

Parent perk: The Goose, located on the foreshore at the beginning of the jetty, is a lovely spot for a coffee (or an afternoon wine!) with a view while the kids explore.

#2: Family Friendly Wineries and Breweries

The Busselton and wider Margaret River region has absolutely mastered the art of the family-friendly cellar door, proving you don’t have to sacrifice great wine (or beer) when travelling with kids. Many wineries and breweries here are designed with families in mind—think sprawling lawns, playgrounds, kids’ menus and relaxed outdoor seating where little ones can roam while you settle in for a long lunch.

Swings & Roundabouts is a standout, with its huge playground, treehouse-style climbing areas and woodfired pizza. Its perfect for an easy, laid-back afternoon where the kids are just as entertained as the adults.

Hay Shed Hill offers a slightly more refined experience, but still keeps things approachable for families, especially with its casual dining at Rustico, awesome kids menu and welcoming atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Eagle Bay Brewing Co is always a hit, thanks to its expansive lawns, dedicated playground and relaxed brewery vibe—ideal for letting the kids burn off energy while you enjoy a tasting paddle or long lunch.

Across the region, venues have embraced a more inclusive, relaxed approach, with thoughtful touches like outdoor games, colouring packs and space to explore, making winery-hopping with kids not just doable—but genuinely enjoyable.

Parent perk: if you don’t want to argue about whose turn it is to drive, why not engage the services of Boozey Bus Rides to safely get your family to your destination. They took good care of us when we ventured out for a winery lunch.

#3: Aquatastic – Floating Inflatable Fun

For confident swimmers, Aquatastic is a highlight during the summer months and one of the funnest things to do in Busselton with kids. This floating inflatable playground is set in shallow waters and delivers high-energy fun in a safe, supervised environment.

Expect lots of laughter, plenty of splashing and crash outs plus very tired kids (and parents!) by the end.

#4: SUP Life Busselton

If your idea of fun leans more towards serene than chaotic, SUP Life Busselton offers stand-up paddleboarding in the ultra calm, shallow waters of the bay. Its ideal for kids and adults trying stand up paddle boarding for the first time.

Early mornings are especially beautiful, with glassy water, fewer crowds and if you are lucky, a local dolphin or two.

#5: Dunsborough Jet Ski Hire

About a 30 minute drive away, Dunsborough Jet Ski Hire offers tours which depart from Meelup Beach which is guaranteed to add a sense of adventure to your trip. Kids can ride as passengers with adults, making it an exciting but still family-appropriate experience. The pristine waters of the coast are some of the most beautiful you will ever witness and if you are lucky, you might also encounter some local wildlife.

It’s fast, scenic and a great way to explore more of the stunning south west coastline. And for those too young or not quite brave enough to set off on a jet ski, you can wait on the idyllic Meelup Beach and enjoy the serenity, which is exactly what we ended up doing as unfortunately the weather was not favourable on our scheduled day. We will definitely be adding it to the to-do list for our next summer holiday in Busselton.

#6: Fishing from the Jetty or Shore

Sometimes the simplest activities are the most memorable. Fishing from Busselton Jetty or along the shoreline is an easy, low-cost way to spend a slow morning or golden-hour afternoon. I have fond memories of fishing here with my family when we were kids and its funny how some pastimes don’t tire with age.

One of the highlights for little ones is the daily baby-animal bottle-feeding sessions, usually held mid-morning and late afternoon. Its a perfect opportunity for memorable photos and giggles.

#8: Sea Play on the Bay (Next to Shelter Brewing Co.)

This is peak Busselton family living. Sea Play on the Bay sits right on the foreshore and conveniently next to Shelter Brewing Co – which means kids can play freely while parents enjoy lunch, a wine or a craft beer overlooking the bay. The playground is a really fun, nautically-themed adventure playground which is situated front and center on the Busselton Foreshore.

#12: Timezone & Cinemas

Last but not least, if you are looking for some downtime or an easy evening when considering things to do in Busselton with kids, Timezone and the local cinemas are reliable favourites. Located in the heart of the main shopping precinct, its a perfect option for balancing big days out with something familiar and relaxed, especially if the weather is less than favourable.

If you are in need of a drink or bite to eat afterwards, I can also highly recommend The Firestation which is conveniently located next door.

Where to Stay in Busselton with Kids

Staying close to the beach is always a priority for me when planning a trip to Busselton, and it made a noticeable difference to our trip. As we were walking distance to the foreshore, jetty, playgrounds and cafes, it meant fewer car trips and more spontaneous moments.

If you’re travelling with friends or extended family, a short stay home or apartment offers space, flexibility and that relaxed holiday-at-home feel. Because lets face it, as parents we have all had to cook up a bowl of pasta or throw on a load of washing at some point when travelling with kids!

If a hotel is more your vibe, check out the recently opened Hilton Garden Inn Busselton which is just a stones throw from the jetty.
