As 2019 nears an end, I’m starting to consider what is on my travel bucket list for 2020. The possibilities are endless, and my travel bucket list grows bigger by the day as I learn of new places. Needless to say it is pretty hard to narrow it down. Despite being a difficult task, I have listed the top 8 trips I would like to take in the new year.
We will be welcoming in the new year in Dunsborough, Western Australia with very good friends. Its a place we have visited so many times and feel completely at home. They say you should finish the year the way you wish to spend the new one. Think good wine, beautiful beaches and the perfect place to chillax. For us, it doesn’t get much better than that!
Who can resist adorable kids Christmas outfits? Its the one chance to be completely unreasonable in your dress sense and clothe your children in the most festive attire you can find. Many of you commented that you enjoyed my blog on Must Have Christmas Jumpers this year. That teamed with a little nudge from a mummy friend, I just had to put together a kids Christmas outfit guide too. It was lots of fun looking through all the different options and now I am feeling extra festive! Enjoy browsing the selection below – I think I have found something for everyone!
Let’s talk morning sickness. Whilst it is all for a good cause, it is pretty hard to stomach for many pregnant woman. For the extra lucky ones, you will not only suffer morning sickness but all day sickness (its me, I’m lucky). Its best compared to an all day hangover, without any of the fun antics from the night before. You will be nauseous but not necessarily throw up. You are hungry yet cannot stomach anything. And all you want to do is TAKE. A. NAP. Sound familiar? Never fear, there are lots of morning sickness remedies which can help you to feel a lot better. These treatments will alleviate the morning sickness symptoms which in turn will help to masque your early pregnancy from your friends, family and work colleagues. And if all else fails, just complain loudly at the person who got you into this situation.
And in the blink of an eye, it is Christmas jumper’s season again! I don’t know how that has even happened or where 2019 has gone? Growing up in Australia, we were not accustomed to this Christmas jumper business. Christmas Day is usually spent lounging by the pool or at the beach. However, I LOVE the tradition of wearing Christmas sweaters and seeing everyone be really festive. So much so, I have decided to compile a list of must have Christmas jumpers for this year. Or perhaps I am just a little sad that I don’t have an excuse to buy one this year, as I am heading home at the start of December. There is something for everyone on this list, so make sure you keep scrolling to the very end, and enjoy!
I’m a strong believer that is is important to travel with kids. Why, I hear you ask? With all the extra organisation, costs, luggage and restrictions associated with travelling with your kids, surely its easier to stay at home? Well, some of my favorite memories as a mother have been my daughter’s first birthday in Budapest or our family holiday to St Maarten in the Caribbean. Personally I think it is important to travel to experience a different way of life and to open up your children’s minds to new things. Escape the daily routine, forget about the chores and learn to appreciate what you have at home. It also plays a part in character building, establishing resilience and being confident in new environments. Not to mention the precious time together as a family creating memories.
Travel does not have to mean a trip to a far flung exotic destination or staying at a luxe resort. It might mean camping an hour from home, visiting family, your annual trip to a holiday home or even a day trip to a big city. Recently, I took the opportunity to speak with 6 fellow family travel bloggers about what family travel means to them and why they think it is important to travel with kids.
Recently my daughter turned 2 years old. Yes, the terrible twos are well upon us! However it got me to thinking that there is a minefield of gifts and presents to buy for toddlers. And what do they actually want or need at this age? Previously I have prepared a list of toys to keep toddlers occupied on a plane, which includes toys that are convenient to travel with. Now I have collated and present to you “the ultimate guide of gifts for 2 year olds“. This list is a selection of gifts that were very well received by our 2 year old on her birthday, along with some suggestions from my mummy friends. So if you are looking for the perfect present for your child, keep scrolling!
The food and drink of Madeira warranted an entire blog post of its own. Whilst there are many amazing things to see and do in Madeira, the cuisine is equally impressive. This was our first trip to Portugal, which started with 48 hours in Porto, so we were eager to sample the local specialties. After all, trying all of the food and drinks is one of the wonderful things about traveling. Keep reading for the low down on all of the food and drinks you need to try whilst in Madeira, as advised to us by the locals. And to finish off the blog post I have included a couple of noteworthy venues which I recommend you visit whilst in Funchal.
Following on from our family trip to Porto, we visited the small island of Madeira, Portugal. When I mention that we travelled to Madeira, the common response from my British friends is, ‘isn’t it an old people’s place?‘ Such a reputation could not be further from the truth. Madeira is a picturesque island with so much to offer from adventure activities to delectable cuisine. Not to mention the subtropical climate, meaning the weather is appealing year round. The landscape and vegetation remind me of Hawaii whilst the colonial buildings in Funchal echo those of Singapore from the same era. Madeira was elected “World’s Leading Island Destination” by the World Travel Awards for the past 4 years and I can’t believe it is not a more popular destination for tourists. To help inspire your wanderlust, here I have compiled all of the amazing things that you need to do on your trip to Madeira (either with or without the kids!)
When Stickerscape reached out and asked if we would be interested in trying some of their kids wall stickers, I jumped at the opportunity. We moved into our home 3 weeks before Mackenzie was born. Just a few months prior we had relocated from Australia to England. We had no furniture and just basic home wares, which meant that our little girl was never given an Instagram worthy nursery. She recently turned 2 and is quickly becoming a ‘big girl‘. So I thought it was the perfect opportunity to create a beautiful toddler bedroom with some kids wall stickers from Stickerscape.
