As a result, many people experience a runny nose, an itchy throat, and sneezing. Hay fever usually occurs in the spring or summer when the trees pollinate, and the grasses grow. It is not a severe medical condition and is often considered a nuisance to those who have it. However, hay fever can be debilitating for those with asthma and affects around 10 to 30% of the population.

Some of the first signs may be a scratchy or sore throat. These symptoms can be seen in any age group, but children are more susceptible to getting hay fever than adults because their immune systems have not fully developed yet. So, here are five tips for how to survive hay fever this season.

#1: Be Prepared with Supplies

There are a few things that you can do when it comes to how to survive hay fever this season. If you’re living in an area with a lot of pollen, being outside can be really hard. To deal with this, we recommend you consider taking allergy medication as well as wearing sunglasses and a hat to minimize the contact between your eyes and the pollen. You can always go to a local chemist to seek professional medical advice and find over-the-counter hay fever treatments to help soothe your symptoms. 

#2: Drink Lots of Water to Stay Hydrated

It is important to stay hydrated because it helps to keep the body functioning properly. Drinking lots of water can hydrate the cells in your body, which can assist to some extent to avoid developing severe hay fever. In addition to this, if you are drinking enough water, then the toxins can be flushed out of your system, and you will not have as many allergies or other health problems that can arise with a dehydrated state.

#3: Keep Your Home Clean to Fight Dust Allergies

A well-kept home can remove allergens that are in the air. There are some ways to do this, such as opening up windows for a certain period of time each day and increasing ventilation in the house.

Some other tips include removing carpeting and replacing it with hardwood or laminate flooring. Removing fabric furniture and replacing it with leather or cloth ones is also recommended.

It’s also important for every family living in an area with a high pollen count to have a vacuum with a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter, as this will help keep the home clean and free of allergens and keep allergy sufferers healthy.

#4: Breathe Easier with a Dehumidifier 

Hay fever can be caused by many things, including pollen in the air from plants like grasses, weeds or trees. A dehumidifier is an appliance that removes moisture from the air without lowering the temperature or humidity level in the room. This helps prevent hay fever because it reduces humid air, which is associated with pollen grains. It also helps to reduce your sneezing and coughing which can occur due to dry air that irritates your nose and throat membranes.

Some people also use air purifiers, which cost anywhere from $100 to over $300. However, not all experts recommend this because they say it’s more important to remove the allergens from your home instead of just trying to filter them out. Despite this, most people find that they work for them.

An air purifier can help with hay fever by eliminating pollen and dust particles that can lead to allergies. Different types of air purifiers have different strength levels. This means that depending on the severity of the allergy, one may need a stronger or weaker purifier to help with their symptoms. 

#5: Give It Some Time? 

Hay fever is an allergy that can be triggered by things such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites and mold spores. Unfortunately, hay fever season is a year-round thing because the allergens never really go away.

Therefore to help with hay fever symptoms, it might be a good idea to take a break from the things that are triggering you in order to let your immune system recover.
