While most holidays involve sightseeing or relaxing by the pool, the occasional trip is all about having a bit of an adventure. And nothing is more adventurous than leaving dry land behind and getting out onto the water.
If you’re craving a watersports holiday, check out the following epic locations around the world for inspiration for your next vacation.
Brandenburg, Germany
Germany isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you imagine watersports adventures. But it turns out that the country is much more diverse than many people imagine, especially when you move inland.
If you head to Brandenburg, you’ll find an astonishing variety of kayak and canoe trails snaking their way through the forest. You can go solo, in groups, or get a guided tour that takes you past all the best water features. And because Brandenburg is a nature reserve, you’ll also encounter some stunning local wildlife scurrying up and down the banks of the river, making this an excellent destination for animal lovers.
Capri, Italy
Capri is an island in Italy, known for its multicolored architecture and stunning views over the surrounding mountains and lakes. It is, however, also an incredible destination for sailing too. As you make your way out onto the ocean, you’ll see the town in the distance behind you, surrounded by steep hills and dramatic rock formations. The waters are crystal clear, and the coastline is varied. There are numerous pebble stone beaches along the route too, where you can moor your boat and enjoy the sunshine before setting sail again. Hire boats are available in the area if you don’t have your own.
Lake Powell, USA
If you’re thinking about travelling stateside, then be sure to check out waterskiing on Lake Powell – the second-largest manmade body of water in the country. Before travelling, be sure to pick up all the necessary equipment from brands like Jetpilot. At the very least, you’ll need a life jacket that fits. Then, once you get there, you have a buffet of watersports activities from which to choose, including scuba diving, fishing, swimming and boat tours.
Lake Powell is located between Arizona and Utah. The surrounding countryside is incredibly attractive and features canyons, rocky outcrops and atolls covered in vegetation.
The Aleutian Islands, Russia
If you’re looking for fun and adventure in one of the remotest parts of the world, take a trip to the Aleutian islands – a string of landmasses that runs from North America to Russia in the northern Atlantic.
The islands are famous for their impressive surf, whipped up by southerly breezes and storms thousands of miles away in the Pacific. Waves regularly reach twenty feet here, making it an excellent location for those with a penchant for surfing.
Humans have been living in these parts for more than 9,000 years, according to archaeological findings, making this an exciting place to visit for people interested in our shared history.
The Aleutian islands formed around volcanoes spewing out material on the ocean floor. Most of the islands, therefore, have large dormant volcanoes at their centre, providing the perfect backdrop to your watersports holiday.
We hope this has fuel your wanderlust and given you some inspiration for a watersports holiday. With so many great destinations all around the world, it is going to be a hard choice deciding! Safe travels.
