8 Essential Reasons Why You Need To Care For Your Teeth

Your teeth are important. They are essential for getting proper nutrition, play an important role when you’re socialising, and are a great indicator of your overall health. So why don’t you care for them more?

Why You Need To Care For Your Teeth

Well, we think it’s because most people don’t know the importance of maintaining good oral health and the role our teeth play in our lives. So we’ve compiled this list of 8 reasons why you need to care for your teeth and to help you understand why they should be handled with care.

#1: To Smile Wider And Brighter

A beautiful smile reflects how confident you are with yourself, and that’s why many people invest a lot in getting their teeth fixed at the dentist so they can have a perfect smile to show off to everyone around them.

With a healthy set of pearly whites, you will always be able to show off your beautiful smile whenever you want.

#2: Tooth Decay Is Painful And Expensive To Treat

When your teeth are damaged by tooth decay, they’re likely going to cause chronic pain and you will be on the hook for a hefty dental bill. Your dentist will probably have to fill the cavity with a filling or perform a root canal procedure, which can be expensive depending on the cavity’s size.

A filling costs anywhere from $100 to $500 per tooth, while root canal procedures can cost up to $1,000 per tooth. In Sydney, this cost can go even higher, as Putney Dental Care states that the cost of root canal in Sydney is $1200 to $2000 per tooth.

The best way to avoid these expenses? Brush twice a day — and floss every day.

#3: Your Breath Will Smell Better

That’s right — good tooth care leads to better-smelling breath, which can play a major role in amping up your social life.

That’s because the bacteria in your mouth feed on the food particles left behind after eating and drinking.

When you brush your teeth and floss, you remove those food particles from your mouth and reduce the number of bacteria that have access to them, which means fewer odour-producing byproducts for you to deal with.

On the other hand, if you leave the particles in your teeth behind, they can lead to halitosis — or bad breath — which can affect your life negatively.

#4: Healthy Gums Lead To Healthy Heart

We all know how important a healthy heart is. It helps us live a longer and more active life.

Additionally, research has revealed that poor oral hygiene can lead to gum disease, which ultimately can lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

That’s why a good oral hygiene practice is super essential. It can help protect your heart from disease and help you live a longer life!

#5: Good Oral Health Can Prevent Oral Cancer

Cancer of the mouth, tongue, and pharynx is more common than you think. In fact, it’s estimated that there are around 2500 new cases of oral cancer diagnosed in Australia each year.

It’s important to note that most cases of oral cancer aren’t related to smoking or chewing tobacco — but rather to poor oral hygiene.

So if you can maintain good oral hygiene, you can reduce your risk of developing this cancer. Simply brush twice daily (morning and night) with a fluoride toothpaste for 2 minutes each time. This helps prevent cavities and maintains healthy gums.

#6: To Stay Safe From Dementia

Healthy teeth are not only great for your smile, but they’re also good for your brain.  According to research, poor oral hygiene and tooth loss are associated with dementia.

People with healthy teeth tend to be more mentally sharp and resilient, so brush up on your oral hygiene routine because it’s not just about your teeth — it’s about your brain, too!

#7: To Satisfy Your Sugar Cravings

We all love sugary foods, especially chocolate. So if you take care of your teeth and make sure they’re clean and healthy, you will be able to eat all the sweet treats you want (within reason!) without having to worry about cavities or other dental issues.

#8: Pearly White Gnashers Never Fail To Impress

The state of your teeth is going to affect the way people perceive you.

If your teeth aren’t in good shape, it can make you feel self-conscious and awkward — and that’s not even taking into account what other people are thinking!

So, it’s always recommended that you should take care of your teeth, especially if you work in a field where there is a lot of socialisation involved.

That’s A Wrap!

If you’ve read this far, then you’re probably thinking, “Okay, fine. You have convinced me that I need to care of my teeth. But how do I actually do it?”

Well, here’s the good news: caring for your teeth isn’t as hard as it sounds! In fact, there are lots of simple things you can do to take care of your pearly whites — like eating healthy foods and getting regular dental check-ups. Good luck!
